You might now be wondering: does getting a tattoo disqualify you from donating plasma?
No, it doesn’t – but you will have to bide your time for a bit.
The CSL Plasma tattoo policy requires at least a 4-month wait period for any donor with a new tattoo. The wait time is in place to ensure the health of both the donor and the recipients of the plasma.
During the period, you will be unable to donate plasma but are more than welcome to return after it’s over. In such a case, a qualified doctor will take a sample of your plasma to confirm it’s safe for donation.
Why 4 months before the next donation?
Hepatitis C is the cause.
There is an extremely little chance of getting the virus through getting a tattoo if it’s done in a licensed place. The risk increases if the tattoo procedure happens in an unsterile environment. The minimum waiting period is four months since the incubation period for hepatitis C is between two and twelve weeks.
